The best beef is tips from the sirloin of the cow, but many grocery stores sell a combination of smaller pieces as 'beef tips.’ Be sure and ask your grocer what cuts are included in the tips package if you are concerned about the quality of the beef. Read on to learn cook beef tips.
Instructions
1. Trim any excess fat from the beef. Set aside.
2. Combine flour and seasoning in a gallon sized freezer bag. Shake to mix. Heat oil in the Dutch oven over medium high heat.
3. Drop a handful of beef tips into the flour mixture and shake to coat. \Remove from bag and sear in the hot oil, making sure to sear all sides of the meat. Continue until all the tips are coated and seared.
4. Cover the tips with water. Bring to a boil and then turn down the heat to simmer. Allow the tips to simmer for an hour or more until tender.
5. Ladle the beef tips into a bowl, leaving the water mixture in the Dutch oven. Turn the heat up and bring the water mixture to a boil. Stir constantly until it begins to thicken into gravy.
6. Return the tips to the gravy and serve over flat or bow tie noodles or rice.
