Make Glazed Apples

Glazed apples contain a sweet syrup-like liquid that gives the fruit a dessert appeal. Cooking the apples on the stove top softens them. Soft-glazed apples are best when served warm because they taste similar to apple pie without the crust. Serve the homemade glazed apples as a side to a main dish such as pork chops, or top them with whipped cream to enjoy the apples for dessert.

Instructions

1. Wash the apples under cool water to remove dirt and debris. Peel the apples to remove the skin. Remove the core from the apples and discard. Cut the apples into 1/2-inch slices.

2. Combine 1/2 cup apple juice, 1 tbsp. lemon juice, and 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon in a bowl. Stir to mix the ingredients well.

3. Melt 4 tbsp. of butter on the stove top in a nonstick skillet over medium heat.

4. Add the apple rings to the skillet in a single layer once the butter melts. Cook the apple slices in small batches, and add more butter when needed. Cook the rings until both sides brown.

5. Place all the apple rings into the skillet. Pour the juice mixture over the apple rings. Sprinkle 1/2 cup of white sugar over the apples.

6. Cover the skillet with a lid. Cook the apple rings for five to 10 minutes over medium heat. Stir the apples to encourage the sugar to blend with the liquids.

7. Remove the apples once a glaze forms. Serve the glazed apples while they remain warm.
