Syracuse is located in the center of New York State. A trip to the city is not complete without visiting several of the local landmarks. These include the Carrier Dome, home of the Syracuse University Orange teams; Onondaga Lake, one of the saltiest lakes in the world; and Green Lakes State Park, which includes two glacial lakes and dense forest areas. Golf courses around the area take advantage of the rolling hills sculpted by the receding glaciers of the last ice age. Some of the public courses in the area include: Drumlins Golf Course, Bellevue Country Club in Syracuse and Green Lakes Golf Course in nearby Fayetteville. Add this to my Recipe Box.
Doc's Little Gem
This classic, chrome-plated diner has been a local landmark since the 1950s. Aside from the Denny's across town, Doc's Little Gem is the only option for that 4 a.m. urge to eat dinner or an early breakfast in Syracuse. It doesn't matter what time of day it is, Doc's is a popular place to eat, which is a testament to the quality of the food. Hungry diners should try the frittata, a massive combination of eggs, ham, pepperoni, sausage and broccoli, which you can take up a notch with cheese and potatoes. A variety of omelets are offered, as well as the classic pork chops and eggs. Because of a 2007 fire, the diner is now open 24 hours only on weekends, and from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. weekdays.

No matter where you go in the United States, there is usually a Denny's nearby offering you round-the-clock service. In Syracuse, the Denny's on West Genesee Street is the top after-hours diner in town. The 2 a.m. crowd is usually looking for an early breakfast, and Denny's offers a full menu any time of the day and night. The menu includes hearty breakfast meals like the lumberjack or the Grand Slam, and the lunch and dinner offerings are equally filling. With some of the best prices in the diner business, Denny's won't set you back a lot of cash, no matter what time it is.

B'ville Diner
Just a few miles north of Syracuse in the town of Baldwinsville (also known as B'ville) is the B'ville Diner, open for business as it has been since 1934. A Baldwinsville landmark, the diner looks as if it stopped aging in 1955, with red vinyl booths, checkered floor and jukebox. The menu is packed with classic diner food and a few local favorites, including the Chevy Bob, a char-broiled chicken breakfast sandwich with ham, bacon and Swiss, and the B'ville Diner Benny, two poached eggs and Canadian bacon on an English muffin, topped with hollandaise sauce. The shakes are made thick, and the pies are fresh baked on site.
